KANO (North West , Nigeria) — The Kano State Police Command, on Tuesday, said it has achieved a significant milestone in its efforts to combat crime in Kano, with the arrest of 2,425 suspected criminals in 2024.
The State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Garba, who made this known during the end of the year review, said the arrests were made between January 1st and December 31st, 2024.
CP Garba said those arrested included 1,987 suspected thugs, 189 armed robbers, 34 suspected kidnappers, and 58 suspected drug dealers.
He said the command also recovered a wide range of exhibits, including firearms, dangerous weapons, illicit drugs, stolen properties, and counterfeit currencies.
The Commissioner of Police noted that the command’s strategy has yielded positive results and will be sustained and improved upon in 2025.
According to him, “From 1st January to 31st December, 2024, a total of two thousand, four hundred and twenty-five (2,425) suspects were arrested with recovery of fire arms, dangerous weapons, illicit drugs, stolen properties, and other exhibits.
“Below is the summary of the tremendous successes recorded, 189 armed robbery suspects, 34 suspected kidnappers, 10 suspected cattle rustlers, 2 suspected gun runners, 22 Motor Vehicle Thieves and 58 suspected drug dealers
“Others include, 18 human trafficking suspects, 46 tricycle thieves, 28 motorcycle thieves, 4 suspects arrested for forgery, 27 suspected fraudsters and 1,987 suspected thugs.
“The command also rescued 40 human trafficking victims, 13 kidnapping victims and 2 abduction victims while it recovered 7 AK-47 Rifles, One Baretta Pistol, One (1) Pump Action Rifle, Four (4) Dane Guns, Seven (7) Locally Made Guns and Four (4) Toy Guns, 1,213 live ammunition, 57 cutlasses, and 198 sharp knives among others,” the Police Commissioner said.
He said the police will continue to intensify community policing engagements, engage in robust intelligence-led policing, conduct targeted clearance operations, and carry out massive public enlightenment and sensitization.
The Commissioner of Police however maintained that they are committed to sustaining the tempo in fighting all criminal activities in the state while appreciating the support and cooperation of the Kano State Government, the good people of the state, and other security agencies.
