KANO (North-West, Nigeria) — Prime College Kano  has been allowed to reopen after reaching an out-of-court settlement with the Kano State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board, following its closure for violating the 2014 education law.

The college was initially shut down after parents lodged complaints to the Board over an unauthorized increase in school fees.

Speaking in an interview, the Executive Secretary of the Board, Baba Abubakar Umar, explained that the closure was necessary to prevent abuse of regulations governing private institutions.

He said, the school had opted for dialogue, leading to a joint meeting involving the board, the college management, and parents.

Comrade Umar noted that, as part of the settlement, Prime College agreed to reverse the controversial fee increment and restore the previous rates.

He added that, the school is also required to establish a functional Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), with any future fee adjustments subject to consultation with parents, teachers, and a board representative.

The board further granted the college a grace period to work with PTA representatives in setting a benchmark that ensures fairness and transparency in future decisions.

The Director Prime College Kano, Kabiru Hanga confirm the agreement and readiness to follow due process.
