KANO (North-West, Nigeria) — The Kano State government has relieved the officer in-charge of Burji Primary Healthcare Centre, PHC facility in Madobi Local Government area and the staff heading the antenatal services of their positions over observed lapses.

The Director General, Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB), Professor Salisu Ibrahim announced the decision after the affected persons were summoned to the headquarters of the board following an unscheduled supervisory visit that uncovered abnormalities at the facility.

Prof. Ibrahim in a statement by the board’s Public Relation Officer, Sa’adatu Suleiman, said a general posting out of all staff of the facility has also been approved to allow for a comprehensive reset of operations and management at the PHC.

He said the action was taken in line with the board’s commitment to enforcing standards, accountability and quality service delivery at the primary healthcare level.

According to the statement, “Following the unscheduled supervisory visit conducted by the Director General of the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB), Professor Salisu Ibrahim, to selected Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities in Madobi Local Government Area, the Head of Department of Burji PHC and other relevant staff were directed to report to the KSPHCMB headquarters for further administrative review. The engagement formed part of the Board’s ongoing commitment to enforcing standards, accountability, and quality service delivery at the primary healthcare level.

“At the conclusion of the meeting with the Director General, key administrative decisions were taken in response to the lapses observed at Burji PHC. The officer in charge of the facility has been relieved of the position, while the staff responsible for antenatal services have also been relieved of the position. In addition, a general posting out of all staff of the facility has been approved to allow for a comprehensive reset of operations and management at the PHC.

“Professor Salisu Ibrahim reiterated the Board’s zero-tolerance stance on negligence, absenteeism, and poor service delivery, stressing that public health facilities must at all times remain functional, responsive, and community-focused. The KSPHCMB assures the public that appropriate measures are being put in place to restore effective service delivery at Burji PHC and across all facilities in Kano State.” the statement however reads.
