Ex-Kano Gov, Shekarau Tackles Kwankwaso Over Remarks On Gov. Yusuf’s Planned Defection

KANO (North-West, Nigeria) — The former governor of Kano State, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau has tackled his successor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso over remarks against the planned defection by the incumbent governor, Abba Yusuf from the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP to the ruling party, All Progressive Congress, APC.

The two terms former governor, said the incumbent governor only followed the footpath or precedence set by his political godfather, Kwankwaso and as such cannot be forced to relinquish power or accused of betrayal over planned defection to another party.

Shekarau who spoke in an interview with a Hausa online platform, said Kwankwaso during his tenure defected from APC to the People’s Democratic Party, PDP as a sitting governor without relinquishing power for the political shift.

According to him, “I listened to my brother, Kwankwaso’s remarks. To me, Kwankwaso has either forgotten what happened in the past or he thought people have forgotten.

“When he was in PDP, he also left with the governorship seat to APC. Why didn’t he drop it for PDP? The way he took PDP’s seat to APC is likely the same way Abba will take the NNPP seat to APC. If such action is now being described as offensive, then the precedent was already established by Kwankwaso.

“In life, one chooses for himself. If you have tangible reasons and the people you are with are okay with it, that is all.

“If Abba has his own reasons and those around him agree, I don’t see any betrayal here,” Shekarau however stated.

Recall that the purported plans by Governor Yusuf to formally join the APC has created a split in the state’s NNPP and Kwankwassiya movement, especially that the plan was against the wishes of the party’s national leader, Kwankwaso.
