Eid-el-Kabir: Emir Sanusi Caution Muslim Faithful Against Use Of Sick, Deformed Animals For Sacrifice

KANO (North-West, Nigeria) — The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, has cautioned Muslim faithful against using sick or physically deformed animals for Eid-el-Adha sacrifice.

The monarch gave the warning during his sermon after the two-rakat Eid prayer held at Kofar Mata Eid prayer ground in Kano.

Sanusi said such acts run contrary to Islamic teachings.

He said Islam clearly stipulates the type of animals acceptable for sacrifice, urging worshippers to avoid animals with visible defects or illnesses if they seek divine rewards.

According to him, “the practice of sacrifice traces its origin to the traditions of Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Muhammad and must be carried out in line with prescribed religious guidelines.

“Avoid using animals with deformities such as blindness in one eye or visible crippling for sacrifice. Likewise, sick animals should not be used.

“We must avoid these in order to receive abundant rewards from the Creator. The slaughtering of animals is for spiritual reward and not for showing off or impressing people. It should be done solely for the sake of Allah,” he said.

The Emir also clarified that the obligation of sacrifice is not restricted to men alone, noting that financially capable married women and single youths can also perform the act.

He further urged Muslims to imbibe the virtues of Prophet Muhammad, particularly the fear of Allah, righteousness and good deeds.

Meanwhile, the Governor, Abba Yusuf, his Deputy, Murtala Sule Garo and other government functionaries joined the hundreds of Muslims faithful to observe the two rakat prayer at the Eid ground.
