KANO (North-West , Nigeria) — In what could be described as harvest of criminal suspects, the Kano State Police command, Monday, said it has recorded significant breakthrough with the arrest of not fewer than 345 suspects in three day.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu-Bakori stated this while parading the suspects at the Bompai police headquarters.

Bakori said the suspects included suspected thugs, drug peddlers, and persons found with offensive weapons who were arrested across the 44 local government areas of the state.

He attributed the success recorded to the newly introduced initiatives of Operation Kukan Kura and the Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, in the state as it has continued to recorded drastic reduction in crimes.

“Acting on credible intelligence and community reports, the Command conducted a coordinated clearance operation across all 44 Local Government Areas.

“The three-day operation ran from Friday 5th June to Sunday 7th June 2026, with a focus on identified black spots, criminal hideouts, and drug distribution points.

“The outcomes underscore both the scale of the challenge and the effectiveness of our strategy:

“345 suspects were taken into custody, including suspected thugs, drug peddlers, and persons found with offensive weapons. All are undergoing investigation and will be prosecuted where evidence warrants.

“The command recoveries which include, 270 dangerous weapons, including knives, cutlasses, clubs, and other implements used to perpetrate violence.

“A substantial quantity of suspected illicit substances, including Cannabis Sativa, Exol tablets, and the lethal mixture known locally as “Suck and Die”.

“These seizures directly reduce the capacity of criminal groups to harm law-abiding citizens and destabilize communities.

“Two key Command initiatives drove this success. Operation Kukan Kura remains active statewide. It has enhanced visibility policing, reduced response time to distress calls, and denied criminal elements the space to regroup in flashpoints.

“Secondly, the Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, recently launched, has sharpened our tactical response to armed violence and gang activity. Its intelligence and rapid-deployment functions have improved our ability to act swiftly on actionable information,” he said.

The Police Commissioner, however, warned criminal elements to desist from their criminal activities as Kano is no longer a safe haven.

“To those who profit from violence and illicit drugs: Kano is no longer a safe operating environment. The suspects in custody will face due process.

“The Command will maintain sustained pressure through raids, intelligence operations, and prosecution until criminality becomes untenable,” CP Bakori stated.
